ShalkiyaZinc Company founded in 2001 is one of leading mining groups in Kazakhstan. In 2006 ShalkiyaZinc had successfully listed own global depositary receipts at London Stock Exchange. Production activities of “Shalkiya Zinc Ltd” LLP have been suspended in autumn 2008 due to zinc prices drop and world economic crisis.ShalkiyaZinc’s principal operations are located in Southern Kazakhstan and Kyzylorda Province incorporating key assets listed below.

• Shalkiya Deposit
Shalkiya zinc-lead ore deposit was discovered in 1963. In 2002, ShalkiyaZinc was awarded by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan (“MEMR”) with Subsurface Use Contract for Shalkiya Deposit granting 45-year exclusive right for mineral resources recovery at Shalkiya Deposit. In accordance with JORC Classification Code overall ore reserves at Shalkiya Deposit are estimated to 265 million tons of ore with zinc content exceeding 8.5 million tons and lead exceeding 2 million tons. The reserves of Shalkiya Deposit represent approximately 30% of the country’s total zinc reserves (Brook Hunt Report, November, 2006).

• Shalkiya Mine
Construction of Shalkiya Mine, located close to Shalkiya Village in Kyzylorda Province, had been carried out between 1980 and 1993 with ancillary recovery about 1.7 million tons of ore. The infrastructure is designed to support production of 3.0 million tons of ore per annum. The Company commenced mining activities at Shalkiya mine in February 2004. By the end of 2007 the Company has expanded the capacity of Shalkiya mine up to 1.5 million tons of ore per year owing to reconstruction and production capabilities expansion. In compliance to business plan, the Company intends to gradually expand the capacity of Shalkiya mine up to 4 million tons of ore per year by 2016 owing to enrichment factory construction.

• Kentau Enrichment Factory 
Kentau Enrichment Factory, located close to the city of Kentau and approximately 165 km. south-east of Shalkiya Mine was built in 1963. In June 2003, ShalkiyaZinc acquired Kentau Enrichment Factory with intention to process ore from Shalkiya Mine. The ore is processed to zinc and lead concentrates applying conventional flotation technology. By the end of 2007, ShalkiyaZinc increased the ore-processing capacity of Kentau Enrichment Factory up to 1.5 million tons of ore per annum.

• Talap Deposit
Talap Deposit located 30 km. south-west from Shalkiya Deposit was discovered in 1984. In 2004 the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan has signed 20-year subsurface use contract with ShalkiyaZinc for Talap Deposit. ShalkiyaZinc has recently completed exploration program at Talap Deposit which confirmed ore reserves under C1 and C2 categories of 11.1 million tons containing 0.5 million tons of metal as approved by State Reserves Committee. AMC have completed review and reassessment of Talap resources and reserves in compliance to JORC Classification Code.
